It is important to understand this vision from the background knowledge that God, the Creator, has a redemptive programme for humanity which the dragon (Satan) stands to oppose. The birth of the child (Christ) would establish the government of righteousness and justice (Revelation 12:5).
The description of the woman (Revelation 12:1), suggests that she may be the nation of Israel, (cf Genesis 37:9) from whom the Saviour came and the church; the Israel of the New Covenant – both have been the dragon’s target of attack through the ages. Notice here that the conflict starts in heaven – the dragon releases his full rage on the woman (Revelation 12:3,4) and the child to be born. See what follows in Revelation 12:5-8. What lessons are there for us?

God’s victory in heaven is extended to earth and can be confidently accessed only through Christ’s work at Calvary. From the warning in Revelation 12:12, do you have a sound testimony of salvation? Revelation 12:3,13-17 show that Satan is a real enemy. Over the centuries, the church has faced serious persecutions to near extinction, but Christ’s victory has preserved her and will do so to the end. It is instructive for us to stand on covenant ground to access Christ’s victory as the signs of the end are already around us.

And So:
If Satan dares God, who are you to survive his attack? Take Romans 13:14 as your watch word at all times.
